In September 2022, our team was in Rioja. There, we discovered a new gem – a true addition to our Rioja range: Alonso & Pedrajo. The winery is run by two families who, contrary to expectations, didn't grow up among the vines and don't have any family in the wine industry. Coming from the fashion industry themselves, they decided to change course and pursue their passion.
They purchased a beautiful 3.5-hectare plot where they cultivate sustainable/organic grapes and make wine in the purest possible way. The style of wine they produce is somewhat reminiscent of how wine used to be made in Rioja. everything was macerated on the skins (including white ones!), aged partly in oak barrels and partly in concrete. Everything is highly drinkable, yet with a distinctive flavor. They make wine from native grapes, but also experiment with grapes like Sauvignon Blanc and other international varieties. Their goal is to establish a self-sufficient "Finca" that they can pass on to future generations.
Suané wines:
The name "Suané" comes from the French "soignée," meaning refined and delicate. The wines are made with minimal intervention, allowing the terroir to express itself as purely as possible.
White: A blend of Viura and Sauvignon Blanc—skin maceration and oak aging. This results in a powerful white wine with slightly nutty aromas, a slightly grippy mouthfeel at the end, and a long finish with ample freshness.
Rosé: A wood-aged rosé made from Viura, Garnacha, and a touch of Sauvignon Blanc. A powerful and concentrated glass. A wine to pair with food, each glass developing differently—a real pleasure!
Red: A classic Tempranillo with dark fruit, spice, and a slightly rustic character. A wine that constantly evolves—pleasant for decanting and also perfect for storing.
