In September 2022, our team was in Rioja. There, we discovered a new gem – a true addition to our Rioja range: Alonso & Pedrajo. The winery is run by two families who, contrary to expectations, didn't grow up among the vines and don't have any family in the wine industry. Coming from the fashion industry themselves, they decided to change course and pursue their passion.
They've purchased a beautiful 3.5-hectare plot where they cultivate sustainable and organic grapes and make wine in the purest possible way. The style of wine they produce is reminiscent of how wine used to be made in Rioja: everything is macerated on the skins (including white!), aged partly in oak barrels and partly in concrete. Everything is highly drinkable, yet has a distinct flavor. They make wine from native grapes, but also experiment with varieties like Sauvignon Blanc and other international varieties. Their goal is to establish a self-sufficient "Finca" that they can pass on to future generations.
