Waterkloof, Chenin Blanc 2021
Chenin Blanc. Beautifully complex, gastronomic, and with ageing potential. Lovely yellow fruit and a touch of fennel. Pure and crisp.
In recent years, Waterkloof has developed into a regenerative and exceptionally sustainable winery. This Chenin Blanc takes full advantage of this. It offers a complex nose of quince, white peach, and yellow apple. Along with a touch of fennel, it adds depth and a minerally taut finish. It lingers long with hints of ripe apricot and honey. Pure, too! Yes, quality is paramount here! Honesty is the best policy, after all! Some lovely pairings include shrimp salad with avocado and a light, lemony dressing. It also pairs well with fresh mussels in a slightly spicy, perhaps Thai-inspired, creamy sauce.

In 1993, owner Paul Boutinot began his search for a vineyard with a clear terroir signature. The Côte d'Or, Chablis, Paulliac, and Barolo were out of the question due to their price. So he had to find a new classic. It took ten years to narrow the search down to a small area on the cool, southern slopes of Schapenberg, overlooking False Bay in the Cape. Waterkloof was born, and the hard work began. The first harvest as Waterkloof wasn't until 2005.
