Vajra, Langhe Nebbiolo 2023
Nebbiolo in its purest form.
This wine showcases the Nebbiolo grape in all its purity. The grapes come from several of the estate's younger vineyards, ranging in age from 10 to 25 years. The differences in location and soil mean the grapes ripen at different times, necessitating multiple harvests.
After harvest, each plot ferments separately for approximately 19 days, after which the wine is further aged in stainless steel and, depending on the vintage, a small portion in used (neutral) oak. This allows the grape's character to fully express itself. The wine has an inviting, vibrant nose with aromas of rosebuds, violets, berries, dark fruit, lavender, and mint. Elegant and complex on the palate, it features layers of juicy red fruit, orange peel, and sweet spices, supported by earthy and mineral notes. It's already wonderful to drink young, but the wine will develop beautifully in the coming years.

A unique family winery in Piedmont, guaranteeing consistently high-quality wines in a modern, fruity style. Vajra's vineyards are located northwest of Barolo and have been organically farmed from the start. The high altitude of the vineyards (the Bricco delle Viole is among the highest vineyards in Piedmont) creates a wide temperature range between day and night. The grapes ripen slowly and fully, giving the wines wonderful finesse and elegance. The relatively cool climate in this region has led many winemakers to harvest the Dolcetto grape, as it requires warmth to fully develop. However, the Vajra family still produces beautiful rosé and red wines from this grape.
