Vajra, Barolo Albe 2020
Beautiful Barolo with good balance and great aging potential.
A classic Barolo with aromas of red berries, raspberries, and blackberries, complemented by sweet spices. Lively and complex in flavor with wonderful balance, refined tannins, and a long, elegant finish. A beautiful wine with great aging potential.
The Vajra vineyards are located northwest of Barolo and have been organically farmed from the start. The high altitude of the vineyards (the Bricco delle Viole is among the highest in Piedmont) creates a wide temperature range between day and night. The grapes ripen slowly and fully, giving the wines a wonderful finesse and elegance. The relatively cool climate in this area has led many winemakers to harvest the Dolcetto grape, as it requires warmth to fully develop. However, the Vajra family still produces beautiful rosé and red wines from this grape.

A unique family winery in Piedmont, which guarantees consistently high-quality wines in a modern, fruity style.
Aldo Vajra has always been a bit of a rebel. And for good reason, because this trait led to this beautiful winery and its authentic wines. The story begins when, at fifteen, Aldo is picked up from the street by his father during a demonstration in Turin and sent to his grandparents' farm. That summer, Aldo spends a lot of time in the vineyards, where his interest in winemaking is piqued. He joins Suole e Salute, an organization for organic wines in Italy. At just 18, he makes his first organic wines in Piedmont. In the years that followed, he married Milena, who shared his innovative vision for winemaking in this region. For example, they were one of the first wineries in the region to apply mass selection, replanting Freisa, a "forgotten" grape variety from Piedmont, in their vineyards, while also experimenting with Riesling and Pinot Noir. In the cellars, they opt for large, older barrels instead of the popular barriques, thus limiting the influence of wood on the wine's flavor and producing wine in a more modern, fruity style. This earns Aldo the designation "più moderno dei tradizionalisti e più tradizionale dei modernisti," or "the most modern among traditional winemakers and the most traditional among modern ones."
