Marques de Murrieta, Gran Reserva 2015
In the glass, this wine is bright red in color with evolved nuances. The nose reveals surprising red and black fruit, but after a little oxygen, notes of spice, leather, and cedar also emerge in the bouquet. On the palate, the wine is medium- to full-bodied with fine-grained tannins. The fruit still bursts into the mouth, but everything is perfectly complemented by lovely acidity and a rich aroma and elegance on the finish. We recommend decanting the wine 30 minutes before serving.

Luciano Murrieta, later Marquès de Murrieta, is not only the founder of the Bodegas that bear his name, but is also considered the founder of the modern wine trade in Rioja. Luciano Murrieta was born in 1822 in what was then the Spanish province of Peru. After Peru gained independence, he ended up in London. There, he was surprised by the popularity of Bordeaux wines and was inspired by this style of winemaking, which involved aging the wines for a period in wooden barrels.
