Gary Jordan is a geologist by training. When he took over his father's winery, the first thing he did was to meticulously map the estate's diverse soil types. This, combined with the various microclimates, has enabled the company to produce a wide variety of quality wines. The Jordan Wine Estate is one of the few wineries in Stellenbosch with vineyards planted on all four sides of the compass. This allows for the cultivation of both white grape varieties like Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc from the south-facing vineyards and robust red wines from varieties like Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon from the warmer, north-facing vineyards.
