ANALYTICAL TASTING

This course is for anyone who wants to learn to taste (blind) more accurately and understand why a wine tastes the way it does. We cover the characteristics of around 20 important grape varieties, with a strong focus on wine structure, so that you can evaluate wines beyond just their aromas.

The course has been developed in collaboration with the Wine Academy to prepare and support the vinologist program (SDEN4) and has been offered at the Wine Academy in Zeist since 2025. Now, it’s also available in Amsterdam! Tasting is done according to the SDEN4 method.

The city’s most enthusiastic wine nerd: Dieuwke Engelsma

For many long-time D-Vine visitors, she is a familiar face, but she is also well known in the Dutch wine world. As a vinologist and DipWSET, she is one of the top wine tasters. She also teaches wine tasting at the Wine Academy. With a PhD in molecular cell biology, she uniquely understands why wine tastes the way it does – and even more importantly, she can explain it perfectly. Her infectious enthusiasm has already inspired thousands of wine students.
